Native-language filmmaking and cultural celebration is no longer an arthouse exception – it’s becoming a norm. Projects like Chief of War and the Oscar-shortlisted Mother Tongue reflect this shift, bringing Indigenous voices and languages to mainstream audiences. And hits like Squid Game have proven that authenticity and commercial success can go hand in hand.

In this panel, Brandon Finn (Chief of War) and Luciane Buchanan (Chief of War, The Night Agent, Mother Tongue) discuss learning Native Hawaiian for their roles and how language shaped the authenticity of their performances. They’re joined by chef and bestselling author Sean Sherman, whose work in Indigenous cuisine highlights the cultural storytelling carried through food.

Together, they will explore how language, culture, and creative craft are transforming representation.

Moderator: Surae Chinn, Host ‘Good Things Utah’ on ABC4
